Playground Update

Playground Update

Reed Solomon, a senior Boy Scout in Troop 507, which is sponsored by and meets at Crawford, is planning an Eagle Scout project to rehab and improve the Crawford playground.  This project will be a benefit to Crawford, and a very worthwhile effort on the part of the Scout troop to give back to Crawford.

As part of the project, Reed has established a GoFundMe account to accept donations to help cover the cost of the materials for the project (mulch, benches, plants, etc.).  He is soliciting support from his troop, family, friends, and the community in general.  If you wish to make a donation, please visit the link.  Any excess funds will revert to Crawford as the beneficiary of the project.

We look forward to this project and to the improved playground that can be used by the children and families of Crawford.

Pastor Anne wants to meet you

Pastor Anne wants to meet you

Starting next Friday, August 28, Pastor Anne will be hosting both virtual and in-person opportunities for hour-long meet and greets so that she can get to know members of the congregation better and you can get to know her. These will be held at several times on Fridays (morning and evening) and on Saturday mornings throughout the month of September.

Each session will be limited to 8 people and you can click here to sign up for a spot. She wants to meet the children and youth of Crawford, too! If the times all fill up, we’ll add more. If none of the days/times work for you or if you would like to set up a private time to meet, drop her an email at anne@crawfordumc.org and she’ll work that out with you directly.

Genesis

Genesis

“The earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep.”

Does this sound like a description of your life? It did to me. This sermon does a deep dive into the hope built into the Creation story from the very first verse. That formless void contains all that ever has been and the potential for all that is yet to come. It is the beginning place. We have no need to fear it; we only need to look around for the Spirit of God, hovering somewhere nearby to bring a new, wonder-filled world into being.

The Gift

The Gift

Do you have trouble receiving a gift of help or money or care from someone else? It may be more blessed to give than to receive, but if you rebuff someone’s gift, you are keeping them from experiencing that blessing. More than that, if you find it difficult to receive a gift, you might unknowingly be blocking yourself from fully receiving the free gift of God’s grace.

In this second part of the Jabbok River story, Jacob has difficulty receiving the fullness of Esau’s gift of grace, and the story has strong parallels to Jesus’ parable of the Prodigal Son. Be sure to watch Part I: The Emptying River from August 2 first.

The Emptying River

The Emptying River

Do you sometimes find yourself wrestling with who you are and what you’ve done? Do you get stuck in a place where it’s impossible to go back and you’re afraid to go forward? That’s your Jabbok River moment. Wrestle with it and you’ll come out knowing who you are.
